D’EST at Kaunas Artists’ House: Mocuments | Archive Administro Screening

Kaunas Artists’ House (KMN) continues the program Mocuments for the dissemination of video art and films analyzing the construction of different realities. The films of the Mocuments program seek to problematize the concepts of artificial reality, film editing, technique and narratives, unmasking the illusions of objectivity and thus approaching the honest image of reality – as diverse, inconsistent, often disappointing and even disgusting. The second cycle Archive Administro will delve even deeper into the methods of using archives and directly provide examples of how collective archives can become part of new ways of retelling history by finding a different relationship to historian macro narratives.

Language: English, videos with English subtitling
Participation: Registration is required to attend the events online

On October 7th at 7 pm, Berlin-based curator Naomi Hennig will show a selected programme of two video art films. Artist Shelly Silver’s Former East / Former West (1994, 62 min., German with English subtitles) and Anna Zett’s video art piece Endarchiv (2019, 18 min., German with English subtitles). The films will be followed by a discussion with curator Naomi Hennig and video artist and curator Gerda Paliušyte.

Curated by Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė

The project Mocuments | Archive Administro is a part of the extended Kaunas Artists’ House program Unlearning Eastern Europe. In the course of the program, the aim is to rethink the problems specific for the (Eastern European) region – from the traumas of the historical past, the possibilities of decolonization to the strategies of memory politics or activism. The program is supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre.
